that tries to send Elian into the embrace of the poverty and hunger striken island of
communist Cuba.

Comments: How is it that the U.S. sees it fit to send a boy back to a country where
we do not even send our own goods? Does the word EMBARGO ring a bell to anyone? Half of
the leaders in this country have absolutely no idea what it is like to live in a communist
country. We (U.S. citizens) will not support a country who we feel violates human rights,
but will support sending a boy there who was already granted temporary residency in
America? Readers, take a moment to research life in Cuba. Then, tell me if you would want
your cousin ripped out of your arms to be placed there. Why is it that the only time
Cubans are not overlooked is when politicians come out and plead for their votes? If Elian
is returned to Cuba, Castro WILL destroy him as he has with the country, millions of Cuban
relatives, and the spirit of the Cuban people. For everyone's information...Castro has
killed his own relatives. His daughter lives in the United States and is pleading in
Elian's favor. Do you not wonder why Mr. Gonzalez does not dare to step out alone, away
from Cuban nationals? I pray that justice will be served in this situation.

Comments: Lazaro Gonzalez ... it seems to me that the Department of IN-Justice will
'have to pry the child from many arms'. I would personally be extremely upset if they do
attempt to do anything that is contrary to the rights of this child to have his day in
court. Whereas I do believe that now is the time for the father to have his child, I also
do agree that the childs return to Cuba would not be in his best interest, and I further
believe that IF the father is NOT considering the possibility of this child being further
harmed once returned to Cuba as a result of this past 5 months, and his 'public
denouncement of Cuba' (wether coached or not), then I could not possibly believe that he
is in fact concerned with his sons best interest, or well being at all. He is simply
putting his own desires over the interest of the child ... IF HE IS IN FACT SPEAKING HIS
TRUE FEELINGS WITHOUT PRESSURE FROM THE CUBAN GOVERNMENT. However, since I still believe
that he is NOT free to speak those true feelings, I also do NOT believe that he is 'so
cold' as to be so un-concerned about the 'dangers of returning Elian to Cuba'. THIS IS NOT
JUAN MIGUEL SPEAKING, AND WE MUST KNOW THAT UNDER ANY NORMAL CONDITIONS THIS FATHER WOULD
CERTAINLY BE CONCERNED ABOUT HIS SONS EMOTIONAL, PHYSICAL AND SPIRITUAL STATE ... AS WELL
AS HIS FUTURE FREEDOM. In closing, let us NOT resort to name calling towards this father
... whom I am sure is a victim in this whole situation as well! We MUST support Juan
Miguel with the same support we are offering Elian. His father IS NO MORE FREE!! The
cuban-American people have offered him support in the prior few weeks ... understandably,
He does not feel comfortable in that support. However, calling him a traitor and coward IS
NOT GOING TO ACCOMPLISH A THING. We MUST continue to be compassionate to the situation
that this man is in, and we MUST take a stand for HIS freedom as well as Elians!! My
prayers remain!! FREEDOM FOR ELIAN ... AND ALL! LOVE TO ELIAN. M.L.RESSLER

Comments: I would like for everyone that supports Elian going back to Cuba to put
yourself and your family in the position of Elian. After everything that child has gone
through, would it really be fair or even humane to send him back to square one? Once back
in Cuba, Elian's life will be worse than it was before...he will be forever known as the
child that defected the country and will be humiliated and treated badly for the rest of
his life. I belive that before you make comments on "sending him back" you
should really put yourself in that position. I'm sure the situation looks very different
from that point of view. Also, after hearing all these rude, terrible comments it is truly
evident that the world is losing it's sense of empathy and love. Have a heart. And if you
don't have a heart just keep your rude comments to yourself.

Comments: He belongs where ever his father chooses. By law he should be wit his
father. And if his father wants to be in Cuba so be it. IT is his father decision. Cubans
come here for a better life and to follow our laws so people protesting like this is
hypocritical. Law is he should be wit his father and thats it. His father may support
communism and may want to live there thats not any of our business.I am cuban myself. Im
looking at the logically. And those relatives here in the US they dont knwo the kid. The
kid didnt even know of them til he got here.

Comments: I have a six year old son, I can't imagine anything coming between us
specially not FEAR! If Juan Miguel fears his family and the Cuban-American community in
South Florida What can we expect of him when confronted with Castro's repression? Six year
old children know more than what adults can remember, for myself I was four when I left
Cuba with my family, I remember my mother making candies and perserves to sell while my
father served time in Voluntary sugarcane harvest camp which was mandatory if you intended
to leave the country. I remember the taste of native fruits and the smell of the land
where I was born. I feel shameful when all you hear about Elian's case is pertaining to
the "LAW" and breaking of the "LAW" by the Miami Gonzalez's, they
forget that the laws if this country is what makes it GREAT, that the Fathers of the
American Indepedance fought for Justice and Freedom and the laws have needed to be changed
in order for justice and freedom to prevail in history. Elian is a child blessed by God,
God is with him, nothing will change God's plan for him. My prayers are with him and his
family, all of his family.

Comments: I agree wholeheartedly with your website; until today I honestly feared
Elian would automatically be sent back to Cuba. I have personally known Cuban refugees;
how can Americans be so naive about the nature and behaviour of the Communist system? It
hasn't been that long since Castro's takeover. !Vaya con Dios Elian, aqui en America! Una

Comments: I am cuban. Cubans know what it is like to live in a repressive and communist
country. Fear involves everything you say and do. That's why thousands of cuban people
come in rafts, even with their kids, because it is better to risk your life than to have
NO LIFE, living under opression. I think that Elian's mother prayed to God in that very
last moment, when she realized that she was going to die, and that prayer was answered! He
got here, surrounded by dolphins, protected against the damage of the sun and
dehidratation, founded by a christian in a Thanksgiving Day. But I think that this prayer
is still in the presence of God!! He will be protected and lifted up, no matter what men
try to do, because of political compromisses. GOD IS WITH ELIAN. And my prayers join his
mother's prayer, and the thousands of cuban people that have been praying every day in
front of Elian's house in Littlle Havana. We pray for his freedom, here in America, and
for the freedom of our poor country, after 41 years of disaster. I beleive that it's very
close!! VIVA CUBA LIBRE!! VIVA CRISTO REY!! I love you, ELIAN. God bless this precious
family of the Gonzalez.

Comments: I pray every day that Elian can stay in the United States and enjoy the
freedom in this country. Why anyone would send him back to Cuba is beyond me. His mother
loved him enough to try to give him what was in the "best interest of the
child". I am a mother of three sons and currently live in Tennessee. We are a
conservative Christian family and will continue to pray for him and his relatives in
Miami.

NOBODY will harm him. - Castro, your game is OVER.- This 41 years of suffering, poverty
and opression have been too long. It's enough, Lord!! Please, free our country, and We

Comments: I wonder if this Dr. Ledbeder could possibly get me removed from this
drug infested, high crime neighborhood that I live in? It is, after-all, according to his
'personal opinion' dangerous to my emotional state. Where on earth did this man get his
qualifications? And since when was a 'diagnosis' given out to an individual without even
'personally speaking with that individual'? I believe that Dr. Ledbeders opinion should be
totally disregarded ... only because he has not even met with Elian once to determine such
an opinion. Had he done so, then perhaps I could accept it as a qualified opinion, and not
merely his own personal one. ELIAN NEEDS HIS DAY IN COURT!! He needs to be given the
proper forum in which to speak freely. (un-coached, un-provoked, un-manipulated) People
NEED TO STOP SPEAKING FOR HIM ... AND LET HIM SPEAK FOR HIMSELF!! GIVE THIS CHILD HIS LIFE
BACK!! EVERYONE SEEMS TO HAVE THEIR OWN AGENDA ... THEY WANT WHAT THEY WANT ... NOT WHAT
THE CHILD WANTS. THEY SEEM TO BE DETERMINED TO RULE HIM ... TO LIVE HIS LIFE ... MAKE
DECISIONS FOR HIM!! UNTIL HE IS GIVEN THE RIGHT TO SPEAK FOR HIMSELF, AND BE HEARD, HE IS
NO-MORE FREE HERE THAN HE WOULD BE IN COMMUNIST CUBA!! My prayers remain for Elians
freedom! FREEDOM FOR ELIAN!! FREEDOM FOR ALL!! LOVE AND PEACE: Michael L. Ressler

Comments: Why is it so dificult to see that Elian Belongs with his father?? Can
Elian only be happy if he has more toys; can a person be more happy with Fisher Price than
with your own father. Does happiness depend upon your economic situation in life? I am an
American living in Canada and it saddens me to think that things have changed so much at
home.

Comments: It amazes me that as I review this page I see so much ignorance and
insesitivity to the possibility that this child may NOT merely lose his freedom, but also
his very life IF we do NOT continue to protect him. Considering this 'possibility', you
would think that more folks would be calling for a total and complete investigation of
this entire situation BEFORE condemning this child to a life of repression and 'possible
death'. It is a sad state of affairs that we would cosider sacrificing even one child in
the name of 'fathers rights'. It has been said that the blood of Elizabet is upon the
hands of Castro ... and it has been said that the blood of Elian would be upon the hands
of the American people and its Government. I for one do NOT want that responsibility on my
conscience!! IF this child does not have his day in court, IF this child is NOT heard, IF
we refuse to review all of the 'accusations' on all sides of this battle, IF we do NOT
investigate this fathers relationship with this child, and the reasons for Elizabet
fleeing Cuba in the first place, IF we continue to scream for protecting the 'fathers
rights' RATHER than this childs BEST INTEREST (for physical, emotional, and spiritual well
being) THEN WE WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR WHATEVER THE FUTURE MIGHT HOLD IN STORE FOR THIS
CHILD!! MY PRAYERS AND LOVE REMAIN FOR ELIAN!! FREEDOM FOR ALL!! M.L.RESSLER

Comments: Que es eso de echarle la culpa al padre? Cual es el pecado del padre? Admiro su
valentia, entiendo que no se quiera acercar al nido de culebras que es Miami. Han visto
esa horda enardecida rezando y llorando histerica? Gente que ante algo tan delicado se
pone a hacer manifestaciones contra Castro? Dejen a los cubanos en paz, ellos, solo ellos
deciden si quieren o no a Fidel.
Ojala pronto Ellian vuelva
a casa. Realmente temo mucho por su suerte en manos de gente tan inescrupulosa. Marcos

Comments: You have no doubt heard by now that the three judge panel in Atlanta
ruled in favor of preventing Elian from leaving the United States during the appeals
process. This is a miracle and an answer to prayer. There have been thousands and
thousands of people all over the world who have prayed for this child, and we thank God
for hearing us. This is a small miracle, but indeed a significant one. I realize that
there are many people reading this board who despise us and hate us for what we are doing.
That is okay. We are not looking for their approval. We believe with all of our hearts
that we are doing what is right in the eyes of God. So if we are hated for doing our part
to save a child's life, to prevent him from being brainwashed, tortured, or murdered at
the hands of his own government, then we stand guilty as charged. Those of you who support
us, take a minute to thank God above for hearing our prayers for this miracle child. I
believe that, no matter what happens on this earth, that this child will stay in America.
God has special plans for him here.
