If Elian should not return to Cuba and his father why has no one taken the baby from the father now that he is in the US?

: I AM A CUBAN AMERICAN BORN IN MIAMI AND AM VERY DISGUSTED AT HOW THE U.S. IS HANDLING THIS TRAGEDY. I SAY TRAGEDY BECAUSE I ALWAYS THOUGHT THAT THIS COUNTRY WAS IN SUPPORT OF FREEDOM FOR ALL. I GUESS I WAS WRONG!

I think it is wonderful that you set up this page.I feel Elian needs to stay in the US.Cuba is such a terrible place that his mom died to get Elian to freedom. This little boy is a miracle and he was saved by the lord. If we all continue to pray for Elian the lord will listen and he will stay

My wish for Elian is a happy life. I don't feel that keeping a child from his father is part of that recipe. I am glad that Elian mist stay in America until his apeal is decided, but I believe that keeping Elian from his father is cruel. Please support families and allow Elian to spend time with his father. Now that the law has prohibited Elian's return to Cuba, for a time, there is absolutely no reason to keep the father and child apart any longer. Juan Miguel wanted his son back immediately (11/27/99), it has been too long since they have shared a hug or a kiss or a checkers game. If you love or have ever loved your own father you must know that your father's love is not easily ignore, dismissed or forgotten. Please let Elian spend some days or weeks with his "real" family!

How dare anybody try to step in and decide what is in the best interests for this child. Now that his mother has passed, his father is the only person legally deserving to raise this little boy. Whatever her reasons were for leaving Cuba were her reasons alone, not the child's personal ones. His father never agreed to his leaving in the first place. Wherever he chooses to raise his son is entirely his business, and no one else's. Unless they can prove that he is not a fit parent, then give the boy back to his father!! Those Miami relatives need to do what is in the boy's true best interest and send him to his father, then back off and mind their own business.

What bothers me is one big thing that was in the news just the other day. Castro reports that he has established a place for Elian to live with a number of other children. Is Castro afraid to live Elian alone with his father, as reported that the father has a bad temper and he might strike Elian and hurt him. I wish someone would answer that question. I believe that his mother made the supreme sacrifice in bringing Elian to America where he belongs. God me by your side. Thank you for listening.

Comments: I'm elated that the 11th District Court determined that Elian should stay in order to present his case. My congratulations to Elian and especially his Miami family for standing up for what's right, inspite of the huge beurocratic machine poised against them - it reminds me of that video we all saw where a lone Chinese dissident in Tianamen square, faced down an entire row of military tanks in front of him. My prayers will be with you for your continued success. God Bless

: Kieth, AMEN!! AMEN!! AMEN!! GOD IS IN CONTROL!! IF WE HAVE FAITH OF A GRAIN OF MUSTARD SEED, WHATSOEVER WE ASK IN HIS NAME SHALL COME TO PASS!! I CONTINUE TO UNITE WITH YOU IN PRAYER AND FAITH THAT GOD WILL CONTINUE TO BE IN CONTROL OF THIS SITUATION. HE ALONE KNOWS THE PLANS HE HAS FOR ELIAN, AND NO-ONE IS ABLE TO INTERFERE WITH THOSE PLANS!! HALLELUJAH!! AMEN!! I had the opportunity to speak with the Gonzalez family over the telephone last evening. Just a short time before the court decision was released. We spoke of holding fast to faith and trust in God, and the importance of prayer. They assured me that their faith was in God, and I assured them that the prayers of 'many' were with them. I also encouraged them to rely on His strength ... NOT their own ... for indeed, this is His battle, and it is already won!! REMAINING FOR FREEDOM ... M.L.RESSLER

I am so tired of hearing this thing about a 'fathers rights'. Can't people seem to understand that in Cuba there is NO SUCH THING? Can't people understand that a 'fathers rights' or a 'mothers rights' or 'any-bodys rights' should NEVER, EVER supercede the health and well-being of another individual? We are hearing all this 'parental rights' preaching, but we are NOT seeing these same 'preachers' doing anything to protect the rights of the parents who currently are in the United States and are 'forbidden' to see their children who remain in Communist Cuba. IF THESE PEOPLE ARE SO MUCH FOR A 'PARENTS RIGHTS' THEN WHY ARE THEY SO ADEMENTLY EAGER TO SEND THIS CHILD AND HIS LAST SURVIVING PARENT TO A COUNTRY WHERE SUCH A THING IS REFUSED? Yes, the father does have rights...atleast recognized while he is on American soil...but Elian has rights as well. So, who is to determine which ones rights are more important than the others'? ALL THE FACTS MUST COME OUT IN A COURT OF LAW BEFORE SUCH A THING CAN BE DETERMINED. Finally, we are one step further towards that goal. Elian will have his day in court!! Finally, someone is recognizing his rights too!! secondly, it has been said by Janet Reno that we cannot persecute a man for his political beliefs: First of all, this is an everday practice of the United States Government who CONTINUES TO PERSECUTE THE ENTIRE CUBAN COUNTRY THROUGH THEIR EMBARGO, AND CLOSED BORDERS, ETC. BECAUSE OF THE POLITICAL BELIEF OF ONE MAN. I suppose then we CAN PERSECUTE AN ENTIRE COUNTRY, BUT NOT ONE MAN? And then we have the fact that there is no freedom to have a political belief that is contrary to Castros Government, so, therefore, can we even say that Juan Miguel Gonzalez has a political belief at all? Freedom and enslavement do not mix! Either he is free to form his own belief, or he is forced to believe one way. We cannot have both! Lastly, I THANK GOD EVERYDAY FOR THE PAST 5 MONTHS THAT IT WAS THE UNITED STATES THAT FOUND THIS BOY AT SEA ON THAT RAFT, BECAUSE WITHOUT A DOUBT, HAD IT BEEN CASTRO WHO HAD FOUND HIM FIRST, HE'D HAVE BLOWN A HOLE IN THAT INNER-TUBE AND WATCHED THAT CHILD DROWN!! FREEDOM!!! FREEDOM!!! FREEDOM!!! Remaining in prayer... M.L.RESSLER

: I just have one thing to say. Elian should be with his father because his father has more a right to have him than his relatives. Yes, I think that Elians father is making a bad decision to go back to cuba, but thats his chioce. GOD gave humans free will. What?....you think Elian will be treated badly when he grows up in Cuba? In reality he will be treated like a god.
